About

Tennessee Backpacker (TNB) is composed of two amateur hikers who get lost. A lot.

img_1627Actually, Matthew and Linda are just a couple of kids who REALLY love camping (but really hate hiking), so they decided to start backpacking in the spring of 2016.

In beautiful East Tennessee, there’s no shortage of things to do or places to venture in the great outdoors. In addition to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (the most visited park in the United States), you’ve got dozens of state parks and national parks. That’s thousands of miles of trails! Despite this, not every park fit our camping desires.

This was our TNB criteria:

  • 1.) Backcountry campsites
  • 2.) That allow dogs
  • 3.) With small or no fees
  • 4.) Near East Tennessee

In this website, you’ll find a number of articles including trail information, gear reviews and random how-to guides. We hope it’ll help make your next adventure as fun as possible… and that our suffering was not in vain.

As Matthew puts it, “Camping is the reward for hiking.”
